Some Olympic stars are set to appear in established variety shows for small-screen fun after accomplishing their Olympic dreams. A number of broadcasters have been looking to benefit from the Olympic fever by inviting Olympic stars to make guest appearances.

Judokas An Chang-rim, the bronze medalist in the men’s 73-kilogram class, and Cho Gu-ham, the silver medalist in men’s 100-kilogram event, will appear on iHQ’s “Tasty Guys,” which features extremely overweight celebrities visiting restaurants and devouring food. The episode featuring An and Cho is scheduled to air on Sept. 3.

Fencers Kim Jung-hwan, Gu Bon-gil, Oh Sang-uk and Kim Jun-ho, who won gold in the men’s sabre team event, will appear on a string of variety shows, including JTBC’s “Knowing Bros,” SBS’s “Master in the House” and KBS’s “Boss in the Mirror.”

“The episode featuring the men’s sabre team will be aired on Aug. 14,” JTBC said.

“Master in the House” will air a special two-episode feature on Olympians starting Aug. 15, as the show is about four celebrities listening to hidden stories of famous figures.

“Boss in the Mirror” will air the episode starring the men’s sabre team on Aug. 8.

Nicknamed the “Avengers” by Korean fans due to their gutsy performance and good looks, the male sabre fencers have risen to local stardom through the Tokyo Olympics.

Other young Olympians, including archers An San and Kim Je-deok, teenage table tennis player Shin Yu-bin and swimmer Hwang Sun-woo have been receiving calls from producers to appear on variety shows.

Archer An, a triple gold medalist, is the most-sought-after Olympian. The Korea Archery Association confirmed that An has received over 15 calls to appear on TV shows, but didn’t reveal information on any scheduled appearances.

So far, the 20-year-old An has appeared on prime-time news programs to share the story of her Olympic journey.

Teenage archer Kim, who won two gold medals in the mixed team and men’s team events, is in quarantine as he was vaccinated later than adult athletes.

According to health authorities, quarantine is waived for Korea’s Olympic athletes returning from Tokyo, but only for those who received their shot at least 14 days before leaving for the competition.

He is also preparing for the upcoming World Archery Championships, scheduled to take place in the U.S. on Sept. 19. This will make him less likely to appear on many TV shows.

Although table tennis player Shin was eliminated from the individual and the women’s team events in Tokyo, the teen athlete garnered much attention due to her bubbly personality.

Swimmer Hwang, who finished fifth in the men’s 100-meter freestyle event, is another highly sought-after guest for TV shows, as he is considered one of the athletes to look out for at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
