Ma Dong-seok, also known by his English name Don Lee, said the “Eternals” cast were like one big family.
영어 이름 ‘돈 리’로 알려진 배우 마동석이 영화 ‘이터널스’ 출연진들은 대가족 같다고 말했다.
He plays Gilgamesh, who he described as “the most powerful and strongest character” in “Eternals.”
마동석은 길가메시 역을 맡았는데, 그는 이 역할을 ‘이터널스’에서 ‘가장 강력하고 힘이 센 인물’로 묘사했다.
Ma’s various roles, ranging from a brutal gangster to a homicide detective to an arm wrestler, have paved the way for him to become the first Korean actor to play a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
잔혹한 폭력배를 비롯한 강력계 형사 및 팔씨름 꾼에 이르기까지 마동석이 맡은 다양한 역할은 그가 마블시네마틱유니버스(MCU)에서 슈퍼히어로를 연기한 최초의 한국 배우가 되는 길을 열어주었다.
The 50-year-old actor revealed that he didn’t go through any audition process for “Eternals.”
마동석(50)은 ‘이터널스’ 출연을 위해 따로 오디션을 보지는 않았다고 밝혔다.
“After Train to Busan became increasingly popular abroad, I received numerous offers from Hollywood. I got a call from the casting director of Eternals, who offered me the role of Gilgamesh. It turned out that director Chloe Zhao and producer Nate Moore had already seen many of my films and analyzed my character,” he told Korean reporters at a recent online press conference.
마동석은 최근 열린 온라인 간담회에서 한국 기자들에게 “영화 ‘부산행’이 해외에 많이 알려지고 나서 할리우드에서 여러 가지 제안이 왔다”면서 “‘이터널스’의 캐스팅 디렉터로부터 전화를 받아 길가메시 역을 제안 받았다. 감독인 클로이 자오와 프로듀서인 네이트 모어가 이미 제 작품을 여러 편 보고 저에 대한 분석을 끝낸 상태였다”고 전했다.
Ma went on to praise director Zhao and said he was pleasantly surprised about how she pursues a balance between commercial and artistic values.
마동석은 또 자오 감독을 칭찬하며 상업적 가치와 예술적 가치 간에 균형을 추구하는 방식에 대해 기분 좋게 놀랐다고 덧붙였다.
The upcoming film tells the story of a group of superheroes, named the Eternals, who look to ward off their long-standing enemies, the Deviants.
개봉을 앞둔 이 영화는 이터널스라 불리는 슈퍼 히어로들이 이들의 숙적 데비안츠에 맞서는 이야기를 담았다.
During the press conference, his co-star Angelina Jolie made a surprise appearance to support Ma.
기자회견에서는 ‘이터널스’에 함께 출연하는 안젤리나 졸리가 마동석의 응원차 깜짝 등장을 했다.
“Eternals” will hit local theaters, Nov. 3.
‘이터널스’는 11월 3일 개봉한다.
