Renault Samsung is hoping that its SM6 sedan will woo customers in the mid-size passenger car market which is hotly contested by both domestic and foreign carmakers
The automaker said Friday that the mid-size sedan boasts the best safety and comfort features in the segment, and also comes at a more affordable price compared to its rivals.
“The mid-size sedan is an important one in the market as the vehicles have been preferred by the public for a long time. We think the SM6 has set the standard for what a mid-size sedan should be. Currently, the flagship mid-size sedan in the domestic auto market is Renault Samsung’s SM6,” a company official said.
The SM6 is the first mid-size car to feature LED Matrix Vision headlamps, which improve the safety of the vehicle as the high-tech lighting system recognizes road conditions with a front-vehicle camera that automatically adjusts the level of light.
Inside the vehicle, the SM6 features a large 10.25-inch digital cluster and 9.3-inch display at the center. Compared to its predecessor, the new model features larger screens for better visibility.
The center display navigation system called “Easy Connect” is easier to operate than the previous “S-Link” system, according to the automaker. It features T Map, a mobile navigation service offered by SK Telecom’s subsidiary T Map Mobility, so drivers don’t need to turn on their smartphone navigation apps.
The new SM6 offers upgraded driving assistance features, such as lane centering assist (LCA) and lane keeping assist (LKA). In addition, the driver’s and front passenger’s seat offer a massage function.
It is also affordable ― the gasoline-powered model starts at 24.5 million won ($21,325), while the LPG version starts at 24 million won.
The higher priced Premiere model, with more features, can be purchased from the low 30 million won rangel; and the TCe 300, the highest-priced model in the line-up, is priced at 34.22 million won.
“We will continue to make efforts to develop products that customers want,” a company official said.
