Newest ‘School’ series reveals cast, featuring Kim Yo-han as lead

KBS has unveiled the cast for the latest series of its “School” franchise, with K-pop star Kim Yo-han as one of the lead actors.

The broadcaster announced, Monday, that the series, “School 2021,” has confirmed that its lead actors will be Kim Yo-han, Kim Young-dae, Jo Yi-hyun, and Hwang Boreumbyeol. It is slated to go to air later this year.

“School 2021” will revolve around four high school students and their friendship, romance and journey to finding their identity.

Kim Yo-han, who is also known as a member K-pop group WEi, will play Gong Ki-joon, who has been doing taekwondo for 11 years. But when he ends up quitting the sport due to an injury, he loses his dream overnight and is left with no purpose.

Kim Young-dae will play the new guy in school, Jung Young-joo, who seems to have a past that he’s keeping hidden from his friends.

Actress Jo will play Jin Ji-won, who is fiercely ambitious, and Hwang will play the self-driven Kang Suh-young, whose goal is to get into one of the top five ranked colleges in the country.

The “School” anthology, which follows the love and school lives of adolescents, first started in 1999 and released seven series until 2017. The latest addition will be the eighth series.

It has starred various top actors, including Bae Doo-na, Jo In-sung, Gong Yoo, Kim Woo-bin and Lee Jong-suk.

The previous series, “School 2017,” starred singer-actor Kim Se-jeong, along with actors Kim Jung-hyun and Jang Dong-yoon as the lead characters.
